Chapter History - 2001

For the 2001-2002 Chapter Year, our Chapter officers were Chip Summers, President; John Dorn, President-Elect; Jess Farber, Secretary; and Jeff Carpenter, Treasurer. The Board of Governors for the year were Ed Dusch, Leonard O’Dell, Joe Rademaker and Rick Vowels. Joe is also the designated Webmaster.

During the Society Annual Meeting in Cincinnati, a Distinguished Fifty year Member Award was presented to Past Chapter President and former Region VII DRC Ray Thornton.

For the third season, the Board of Governors decided to expand the lunch meeting idea from the previous years to alternate months. These lunch meetings were held downtown at the Galt House and the evening programs at J. Kayrouz in St. Matthews.

The Board of Governors met prior to the regular chapter meetings. All topics of concern were discussed to ensure our programs were carried out in the best possible manner.

The season began on an inauspicious note when Jess Farber suffered a broken leg at a party the week before Labor Day and developed life threatening complications.

All the meetings included a wide variety of interesting technical subjects and were well attended. The most unusual was the program on CFD modeling for HVAC systems in October. The annual Chapter Review was in April at the Trane Company on Plantside Drive. Terry Townsend, Region VII DRC, acted as Reviewing Officer. The Chapter Christmas party was a dinner at the home of President Summers. and his wife

The Chapter participated in the Region VII CRC at the Radisson Hotel in Lexington in September. Ed Dusch (Delegate and Research Promotion Chair) and Chip Summers (Alternate) carried out their various responsibilities in an admirable fashion. Others participating were Rick Vowels (Student Activities), Matt Hargan (Historian), Leonard O’Dell (Regional Historian), John Dorn (Chapter Programs), Norm Buckley (Membership) and Ken Peet (Research Promotion RVC). A number of Awards were presented to Louisville Chapter members, including Chapter Service Awards to Leonard O’Dell and Ray Thornton and the Gold Ribbon for History to Matt Hargan, Regional Technology Awards went to Ed Dusch, Donald Shepherd, Jwain White and Nan Williamson.

Matt Hargan and Ed Dusch attended the post CRC warp up meeting as co-chairs for the 2003 CRC to be held in Louisville. The remainder of the CRC committee staffing was done this season. Work on securing Corporate sponsorships for the CRC began in late Spring. The site will be the Galt House East. Ray Thornton is in charge of Corporate Sponsorships.

In March 2002, Matt Hargan was appointed to fill a vacancy on the Society Standards Committee.
