This fiscal year James D. Walsh was Chapter President. Not satisfied with one term as President, Jim is now winding up his second term (the first was 1982-1983). President-Elect is Dan Adams, Mike Berger - Secretary, John Dorn - Treasurer and David Jackson - Board of Governors; however the "Board" also includes all of the Committee Chairman. The various chapter committees were manned with an excellent team of dedicated individuals.
The chapter has 207 area members including eleven
registered student members..Meetings were held at The INN -
Marriott Conference Center, downtown Louisville, on the second
Monday each month alternating between lunch and evening meetings as
was announced in the chapter newsletter, ~ HEAT WAVES ~.
We found that the attendance was better at the
luncheon meeting, however a tight schedule has to be maintained in
order that the attendees can get back to work without any undue
delay. The larger lunch meeting attendance suggests that next
year’s meetings should all be held at lunch time. The one exception
was that the December meeting / dance / party was held at the
Alumni Club of the University of Louisville.
An innovative arrangement for the Research Promotion Committee was devised by Jim Walsh. It consists of appointing two of our distinguished members, Ray Thornton and Bob Logsdon, as Co-Chairmen with the Committee Members made up of the Board of Governors; giving the committee many talents. The final scores are not in yet but it appears that this strategy will produce optimum "Investment" results.
Louisville Chapter participated in the Region VII CRC in Baton Rouge, LA in 1998. Four persons attended, not a record but enough to cover all bases. It was a learning experience for all and an important activity. The various responsibilities were carried out properly plus our President and CRC Delegate Jim Walsh nominated member Ken Peet for RVC Research Promotion and Ken was subsequently honored with the appointment. Jim also announced that Louisville Chapter would host the 2003 CRC meeting and Region VII Chairman Buckmaster later accepted.
Perhaps the most exciting event is yet to come -
the May golf outing which always is a fun activity. The outing
helps finance a good part of our operating expenses and also adds a
great deal to our Research Promotion "Investment".
Our meetings were reasonably well attended and the
speakers and their topics were excellent. As always, the meetings
were combined with Membership Nights, Refrigeration Night, TEGA
Night, Student Nights, History Nights and Research Promotion Night
at various times.
A delightful meeting was the Christmas Party /
Dance which included spouses and lady friends. On this occasion,
special invitations were sent to all of the Chapter Past Presidents
to be honored guests. As History Night, various items of chapter
historical interest: photos and posters were displayed. Our guest
speaker was Past Society President and chapter friend David Butler.
A great time was had by all.
At the Winter 1999 ASHRAE meeting in Chicago, one
of our members; James L. Schulze, Sr. was honor by being made a
Fellow Member.
On a sadder note, two of our Past Chapter
Presidents died during the 1998-1999 year. They were David J.
Murphy, Jr. (1981-1982) and Karl. L. Westlin (1973-1974)
