This year being the 100th Anniversary of ASHRAE Society just happened to occur on the 40th Anniversary of our Chapter’s charter gave us a tremendous opportunity to celebrate. And we did on every possible occasion. Our best event of the year was our November 14th Centennial and 40th Chapter Anniversary meeting which included spouses and special recognition of all Past Chapter Presidents. Our Historian, Larry Fisher, prepared several tables displaying items from our history archives which everyone enjoyed reviewing. Our special guest for the evening was James W. May, the first Louisville Chapter President. We were extremely fortunate to have Society President Elect Richard Hayter as guest speaker who gave us a rousing talk about the occasion and our society. The Mayor of Louisville issued a proclamation making that date Louisville Chapter ASHRAE Day. A special banner marking the occasion provided an interesting backdrop for taking photographs of the assembled members and guests. In addition to Dick Hayter’s address, Bob Logsdon introduced Jim May who had a few choice remarks before cutting the large decorated cake that was enjoyed by all.
The technical meetings covered a wide range of topics ranging from Paint Spray Booth Ventilation, IAQ, Refrigeration, Virtual Reality in Building Design to Casino Boat HVAC Design; plus we had two tours, one of the Capital Holding Building HVAC equipment and the other of the UPS Facilities at the Louisville airport. These various meetings combined Research Promotion Night, Membership & Student Night, Membership Night, joint meeting with ISPE & KSPE, joint meeting with AICHE and Student and Refrigeration Night.
The big event that had been in planning for a year was the Joint EXPO with the KAPHCC of Kentucky. This EXPO was held at the Fairgrounds February 23-25rd and included 50 + Equipment Manufacturer’s booths. ASHRAE members manned a booth to answer questions regarding HVAC&R.
Louisville Chapter had a good year as far as POAE points were concerned. We earned 4941 pts which was sufficient for us to be awarded a special citation.
As is customary, the December meeting was dedicated to Chapter review by the Regional Chairman Stan Houston. The chapter’s year of activities were reviewed at length. Each chapter Officer and each Committee Chairman presented a summary of their activities and suggestions as to how they may be improved were discussed. It was a genuine learning process for all in attendance.
