Our leader for this year was President Marty Timm, ably assisted by President Elect - Leonard O’Dell, Vice President - Steven A. Roosa, Secretary - Wayne Turchetta, Treasurer - Ted Ogle and Board of Governors Beverly Byrum, John Ashe, Tom Smith & Leonard O’Dell.. General meetings were held at the Alumni Club of U of L on the second Monday of the month in the evenings. Board of Governors meeting were held at the Henry Vogt offices, generally one week after the regular meeting. All planning was done at these BOG meetings.
Meeting programs included a wide range of topics of interest to our members. Each meeting was assigned an appropriate type Night, such as Research Promotion, Student & Education, Membership , History, TEGA, Past Presidents & Life Member Night and these subjects were discussed and updated. The program themes varied: Boca Nat’l. Bldg Code - Seismic, Forum - Contractor / Owner / Engineer, IAQ Duct Cleaning & Renovations, Cooling & Refrigeration. We were particularly honored to have Society President Elect Billy Manning present a talk on CFC Alternates during the Past Presidents & Life Members Recognition Night. Additionally, we had two plant tours: the Toyota Plant and the Ford Fern Valley Assembly Plant.
There were two golf scrambles, one in October and one in May. Our income from these affairs was limited due to the nice prizes that were given. Needless to say, everyone enjoyed the outing. Research Promotion Chairman Ken Peet introduced the Phon-a-thon method of soliciting Investments for ASHRAE Research. A battery of phones was borrowed and most of the Board members had a go at calling their list of members. It was a good idea, but contacts were hard to make and most of the callers took their lists home to finish calling. Nice try!
The big event of the year was the Louisville ASHRAE EXPO ‘93 which was held at the Hurstborne Conference Center on April 20th. Sponsored by LG & E Co. and Texas Gas Transmission, it featured 26 booths for manufacturer’s displays, a lunch area, four technical sessions, cocktails & Hors d’Oeuvres and an evening dinner. Expo chairman John Pettit did a fine job organizing and carrying out this assignment.
