Kentucky Commercial Building Energy Code Update
On December 5, the Kentucky Department of Housing, Buildings, and Construction held its quarterly Advisory Committee meeting.  Commissioner Steve Milby deferred to Duane Curry, Dir. of Building Code Enforcement, to deliver the energy code update.  Duane announced that Kentucky will not be rolling back the commercial building energy code and will instead maintain the current energy codes - IECC 2012 for Commercial and IECC 2009 for Residential.  He said the decision was based on all of the feedback received from industry groups and stakeholders.  Thank you to all of the ASHRAE members who supported the effort to halt the energy code rollback!
Indiana Re-adopts Statewide Energy Code

On October 31, Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb approved the re-adoption of that state's energy code, which is ANSI/ASHRAE/IES Standard 90.1-2007.  The energy code almost lapsed at the end of last year with that state's sunsetting provision regarding regulations. ASHRAE and many other organizations moved quickly to seek a one-year extension of the code to allow time for the code to be re-adopted.  That process is now complete and the rule becomes effective 30 days after the approval. Learn more.
Commonwealth of Virginia Moves Toward Cap-and-Trade Plan
The Virginia Air Pollution Control Board voted unanimously to approve a preliminary proposal for a cap-and-trade program for carbon, which would regulate emissions from power plants. Under the plan, Virginia would become the first Southern state to participate in the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, a cap-and-trade program mostly among Northeastern states. Learn more.
